Finite Element Model of Fracture Formation on Growing Surfaces

چکیده
We present a model of fracture formation on surfaces of bilayered materials. The model makes it possible to synthesize patterns of fractures induced by growth or shrinkage of one layer with respect to another. We use the finite element method (FEM) to obtain numerical solutions. This paper improves the standard FEM with techniques needed to efficiently capture growth and fractures.

Fracture Mechanics Analysis of Fourth Lumbar Vertebra in Method of Finite Element Analysis
Objective: In this paper, finite element model of the L4 vertebra subjected to combination of compression and flexion loading in isotropic and anisotropic cases is investigated. Methods: In both cases, the vertebra is considered homogeneous. Also, the body of vertebra is divided to cancellous and cortical sections in anisotropic model, but the process is assumed isotropic such as isotropic mode...

متن کاملA novel modification of decouple scaled boundary finite element method in fracture mechanics problems
In fracture mechanics and failure analysis, cracked media energy and consequently stress intensity factors (SIFs) play a crucial and significant role. Based on linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM), the SIFs and energy of cracked media may be estimated. This study presents the novel modification of decoupled scaled boundary finite element method (DSBFEM) to model cracked media. In this metho...
متن کاملModelling fracture formation in bi-layered materials, with applications to tree bark and drying mud
In this paper we present a model of fracture formation on surfaces of bi-layered materials. The model allows synthesis of realistic patterns occurring in nature as a result of cracking induced by growth or shrinkage of one layer with respect to another. Two different discretizations of the problem are discussed. First we revisit an existing mass-spring approach, then we introduce an approach ba...
متن کاملChip Formation Process using Finite Element Simulation “Influence of Cutting Speed Variation”
The main aim of this paper is to study the material removal phenomenon using the finite element method (FEM) analysis for orthogonal cutting, and the impact of cutting speed variation on the chip formation, stress and plastic deformation. We have explored different constitutive models describing the tool-workpiece interaction. The Johnson-Cook constitutive model with damage initiation and damag...
